While chartering, port agency services, and shipowning remained integral parts of the company’s operations, liner agency activities developed into the principal business of Herm. Dauelsberg for more than a century. From the emergence of liner shipping in the late 19th century until the end of the 20th century, the company represented numerous international shipping lines. However, during the late 1980s and 1990s, many liner shipping companies began establishing their own in-house agencies, leading Herm. Dauelsberg to gradually terminate almost all of its liner agency agreements. ​Shipowning, which had begun with the purchase of the brig Betty in 1867, initially played only a minor role alongside the successful liner agency business. Following the decline of the agency sector, however, shipowning became increasingly significant within the company’s activities. Today, Herm. Dauelsberg GmbH & Co. KG remains a family-owned company. Since 1974, the business has been managed by C. Andreas Bunnemann, representing the fourth generation of the Bunnemann family leadership. With a tradition spanning more than 160 years, Herm.
